Mirfa 2 Reverse Osmosis

Mirfa 2 Reverse Osmosis (M2 RO) is a low-carbon intensive desalination plant developed under the EWEC Independent Water Project framework, ensuring sustainable potable water production in Abu Dhabi.

EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) signed the Water Purchase Agreement (WPA) with TAQA and ENGIE for the development of the Mirfa 2 Reverse Osmosis desalination plant. The project was awarded to a consortium led by ENGIE, TAQA will invest equity and take on the majority share in the project, and Mirfa 2 RO Water Operations and Maintenance Company oversees plant operations under a 30-year O&M agreement.

Plant Overview

The Mirfa 2 RO Plant uses reverse osmosis technology to produce up to 120 million imperial gallons (approximately 545,000 cubic meters) of potable water per day. The plant is located adjacent to the existing Mirfa 1 Plant within the Mirfa Complex in Abu Dhabi. Commercial operations are expected to begin in November 2025.
